My cat had dental surgery on Tuesday, he had his teeth cleaned and 3 teeth pulled. Prior to the surgery he was not eating, he would take 1 bite of his food, hiss, and take off running. The day he came home after the surgery I thought he was going to sleep but was very awake and kept walking around and he did eat a little. Now he is constantly sleeping and he hasn’t eaten anything and isn’t drinking anything either. I am worried, is all of this normal? I have called the vet and they are supposed to call me back but I need input now!
Thanks for all of your help!

It’s only been two days, so I wouldn’t be too concerned. He has probably been nibbling on some food and water when you don’t notice. His jaw/gums/teeth may be slightly sore from the procedure and he should start perking up. He could be sleeping a lot now just from the anesthesia – his body is just metabolizing it slowly.
After having teeth pulled, he is probably on an antibiotic, correct? Which should be given with food. Maybe a little canned to entice him or a little tuna or boiled chicken mashed up to make it easier to eat or maybe even some baby food.
He should be fine real soon, though.
